Jazz Fest Tour: Heritage Sites Near the Fair Grounds
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival was designed to evoke the city’s musical past: stages are named for historic sites like Congo Square and Economy Hall, and images of deceased artists appear across the grounds.
The Fair Grounds–an historic site in its own right–is located near the junction of the Seventh Ward, Treme, and Mid-City. This tour lets you discover points of interest in the neighborhoods surrounding the festival–real places that help define the cultural heritage showcased inside the gates.
Visitors streaming past storied venues like Dorothy’s Medallion Lounge and landmarks like the Autocrat Club can pull out their phones and learn about the communities that have helped make the Fest an event like no other.
